Happy birthday to my friend Cindy Steele! Once again, the Dreamland Lounge did not let us down. Its beauty, lighting, and atmosphere made the party.
Cindy asked us to dress in 60s clothes and listen to 60s music. What a wide and varied decade that was! The 60s started with miniskirts, bouffant hairdos and go-go boots and ended with hippie shirts, bellbottoms, and flowers in our hair. Loving clothes like I do, it was hard for me to choose which theme I wanted to portray.
Cindy also asked me to make the playlist which I followed the same trajectory as the clothing. The decade started with Herman’s Hermits and The Monkees then ended with Jimi Hendrix and Janice Joplin. And everything in between, including Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Petula Clark, and so on.
At one point, Cindy turned the music down and read us her birthday poem, and it went like this:
- Happy birthday to me! I am still fabulous, just with stronger opinions and more moisturizer.
- My birthday wish is simple. Better sleep and fewer mystery pains.
- Turning older is not the problem. The problem is everybody acting shocked by the number.
- I have reached the age where birthday gifts should come with lumbar support.
- Another birthday means more wisdom and less patience for bad lighting.
- I thought age would bring wisdom. So far it has mostly brought reading glasses.
- Getting older is fun if you enjoy surprise aches and forgetting why you walked into a room.
- Youth is wasted on the young, and good knees are wasted on people who do not appreciate them.
- Age teaches you what matters, and apparently one of those things is orthopedic shoes.
- Getting older is just your body sending increasingly aggressive feedback.
- I do not mind getting older. I mind the sound effects!
