Are your dreams free will or destiny? You decide.

My lawyer girlfriend, and rock star community leader in San Francisco who just received a commendation for her long history of service, Kat Anderson, recently started posting her writings to SubStack @GoGoKat. In support, I joined the online literary group and have enjoyed reading other blogger’s posts. This one, from a beautiful English actress, came up in my feed.

At the end of the actresses’ current thoughts on destiny, fate, and free will, she added this little poem that she’d run across in a long-ago journal. Sounds like she’s been thinking about her purpose in life for a long time. Maybe we all do.

IDK…this poem really spoke to me as well. I decided to share it. Does it speak to you?

THE ACHE OF BECOMING

I’ve got dreams so big
they bleed out of me,
fall like droplets from my eyes,
move around the dance floor in a frenzy,
come out of the ink in my pen at 3:00 a.m.,
make me move on him like a snake,
hair falling,
hair in his face.

They make me untamable.

In fear
fitting in would constrain me to normal
like it’s a disease.

So I choose the ache of becoming.

The fever of almost.
The hunger that keeps me alive.

I’d rather drown in my own creation
than sleep through a life that isn’t mine.

I am dreaming
wide awake
and writing my own way home.
