Ann, a woman once so bright, important, and well connected, has left us; so to speak. Gone are her memories and her stories of a life well lived.
The story is the same for so many of us with aging parents. She’s suffering. We’re suffering. It’s a family disease.
Now, for Some Laughs … Sorta
You know me, I have to find the humor, lest I go crazy, so here it is.
Every morning, Ann wakes up and tells her son Grady to go sit down she has something to tell him. Then it begins again. She says “Now son, I am not upset but I want you to know your father didn’t come home again last night. He is out with that other woman from North Little Rock. I know men have needs, so I am not upset. I just wanted you to know.”
The he says, “Now mom, remember dad died last summer.” For which she replies with no sadness, almost relief, “Oh yeah! Why can’t I remember that?” then goes on about her day.
I think she’d rather him be dead than cheating on her. I get that.
