Things are moving pretty fast at the Dreamland Lounge! Our vintage 1918 art deco bar —with possible ties to Al Capone — that we bought from Red Baron Antiques is in place with refrigerators humming. Soon we will have all the water plumbed.
The furniture continues to trickle in. I am astounded at how long it takes to get your furniture after you’ve ordered it. I am talking 6 months … and sometimes, it never arrives at all! The suppliers just keep pushing the date until you finally cancel the order and start over with another vendor. I don’t know how decorators can stand it! It would make me crazy if my customers had to wait that long for their custom flag or banner and I had to wait that long for my money.
Liquor License
Finally, all the papers are in and now it is just a waiting game. This process takes 3 months after you post your sign.

In the meantime, The Dreamland Lounge has received a temporary liquor license so we can open for the upcoming event on our street, Beyond the Divide. I call it a festival or a celebration but technically it is called a “Pop UP”.
Starting April 8th, 20-plus vendors are Popping UP on Ninth Street using storage containers as their store fronts. Ernest Banks and his team of visionaries have positioned the containers in a clever way to create an outdoor mall with a courtyard. They have also painted the street fun colors and have festivities for the whole month of April.

To accommodate all the people who will be visiting our neighborhood, the Dreamland Lounge has secured a temporary liquor license and will be open April 9th to the 25th, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 5 pm – 10 pm. During this time, cross your fingers, pray, or just be patient, because we know-not what we are doing and the bartenders will be mostly volunteers.
And remember the goal: to have FUN, and celebrate West Ninth Street’s legacy.
