Do I Thee Wed | Shout it from the Rooftop

Need to get your party started? Call the McCoy Clan.

Ever wonder what that smooth-talking son of mine looks like on the radio? Meet son Grady McCoy IV who, with the rest of his family, is having the time of his life while celebrating the newlyweds Olivia and James in the photo above.

Shout it from the rooftop, “Babies and marriages are wonderful!” To love that much is wonderful and scary.

Blessed Wedding

This past weekend, our dear friend, Olivia, dressed in a stunning renaissance-style dress, swapped vows, and married James in our family’s long-time church, Trinity Cathedral in Little Rock.

I know weddings are passé to some. And, as a young person, I once had the same sentiment, “Who needs a written piece of paper to make a loving commitment?”  As an older person, I can say: all couples do. There is something weird about getting married and getting married in a church even more so.

Standing, emotional, in front of friends, family and, in this case, God, shows strength. It is no easy thing to allow oneself to be vulnerable and exposed like that. Then, to hear yourself recite words that so many have said before you … well, that’s some heavy sh*t.

The day after you get married, even if you have been living together for years, it all just feels different. Congrats to the newlyweds!
