Stuck in Your Head

To rest easy, my mother always said she had to see where her babies, no matter how old, laid their heads at night.

With that in mind, Grady and I made a trip to Urbana-Champaign, Illinois to see where son Jack was now living. If you remember the past few months, he graduated from Ohio State University, got married, accepted a new teaching job at University of Illinois, and moved to suburbia.

Perfect Timing

It just so happened the day before we arrived in Illinois it rained and the weather turned cold, making for a peak week of fall colors. In the above photo are peach trees on the school’s educational farm.

Hamilton in Chicago

On the last day of our visit, we went into the city to spend the night and see Hamilton at the Nederland Theater.

Even though I launched my first website in 1995, own a successful internet company, and run a small empire, I am terrible at shopping online. I accidentally bought matinee tickets and almost had a complete meltdown because if you make a mistake on Ticketmaster, you can just forget it; you are stuck with your decision. I tried to call Ticketmaster, the Nederland theater, and PayPal to make a change. But, alas, had to accept an afternoon show which, as often happens, it turned out to be the best plan of all. The show started at 2 pm, we were out by 5pm, had an early Italian dinner, and in bed at the Drake Hotel overlooking the Miracle Mile at a decent hour. This made the next day’s departure to the airport easy.

Stuck in Your Head

The music of Hamilton is like Whitney Houston or Prince, the kind of talent that only happens once in a generation. This is my 4th time to see the production but Jack and Megan’s first. I am so in love with Lin Manuel’s genius, just like Prince’s, and I went home and binged the show again on Disney+. It is long, so it took me two nights to watch, but that is good; I need something else to watch besides football and the Kardashian’s. Yes, I watch them; Chris Jenner and I are the same age, she is my peer.

Anyway, if you must have something stuck in your head, and we all do, it might as well be a good song and some lyrics from Hamilton.

Oh, and thanks Mom, you’re right again. Visiting where my baby rests his head was a good idea.
