Tracks in the Snow

Unlike the winter of 2021 when Arkansas had a rare 14-inch snowstorm, this past week we had a typical winter accumulation of 4–6 inches.

Who Likes Snow?

The only animals I can think of that like snow are children, rabbits, and my new puppy, Lady Coco. Since moving into my old house some 30 years ago, my neighborhood has become expensive, making it hard for young couples with children to move in. And, like me, my neighbors have grown old. I miss the sounds and chaos of kids playing outside. Unable to do anything about the lack of kid noises, I decided to create a little chaos myself by buying a puppy. What was I thinking?!

I thought puppies were cold-natured and cuddly, having just left the womb and their littermates. Well not Coco. She loves the snow, just like all youths.  Because of her, I haven’t been out in the snow this much in years.

While out, I noticed the tracks you see in the photo above. They are all over the yard. At first, they present as deer tracks. But, if you follow the hopping-not-walking pattern of the tracks, you can see it is a big rabbit and his friends or family.

No More Snow

I don’t like the snow, the cold, or the clean up brought about by the snow. I realize it is January and our climate has gone crazy, so we could have a rough February, which is hard on plumbing, plants, business, and the economy everywhere. In Arkansas, we’re having record cold days and nights. Soon we will have to rethink the perennials we plant here in the South.
