Dreamland Ballroom

What a Dream

“Thank you for letting us, all of us, share in your dream tonight.” That is what Dancing into Dreamland judge and actress Joey Lauren Adams said to the man who, at the end of a duo-dance routine, got down on one knee, pulled a ring out of his pocket, and proposed to his partner.

The Beautiful People

This past weekend was our 12th  annual Dancing into Dreamland fundraiser. She (meaning Dreamland Ballroom) looked beautiful. It was a full house with at least 250 people in attendance. One of my guests, who was attending for the first time, said, “I have never seen so many beautiful people in one place.” Looking around, I realized she was right. The whole room was glowing.

On these evenings, I often talk about the mutual admiration, acceptance, and inner beauty of Dreamland’s supporters. But I never thought about their outward beauty and, after having it pointed out, it is true. The whole room was beautiful inside and out. The people at the event dressed fearlessly knowing their fashion effort and risk was appreciated more than its propriety.  Attendees painted on their make-up, squeezed into sequins, donned bow ties, and let down their hair in this safe place full of acceptance for individuality.

A Dream of Romance

As we all looked on, wondering “is this wedding proposal real?,” we came to accept the truth that it was. The feeling of vulnerability was palpable. We all lived the dream with the dreamers.
