How is the Flag Business in 2024?

Surprising to many, election years are not good for the flag business. Sure, we sell bunting to campaign offices and pep rallies, but that doesn’t make up for the overall downturn in annual sales. Most retailers, not just flag dealers, project little or no growth during years with presidential elections. It seems the only businesses that benefit from elections are the sellers of advertising, i.e. TV, radio, billboards, and direct mail.

Why?

So, why the loss in consumer confidence? As the presidential election season heats up, so do the daily headlines of doom and gloom. It doesn’t take long for the viewers to begin to believe the fear mongering and think that if their guy doesn’t get elected, then America is doomed. That is why my financial planner sent me this graph, to ease my worries and warn against claims that one candidate or another will “kill the market” or “ruin the economy.”

You Can’t Argue with the Facts.

Since 1933, 15 presidencies of both parties (7 republican and 8 democrat) have performed well in the stock market. As you can see, there is not a hill of beans between the two parties. So, stop worrying and start spending; America never stops, so you shouldn’t either.
