Visit OB House in Ft. Lauderdale

Have you been wondering what ever happened to the restauranteur Rodney Ely, founder of Satellite Coffee and Rodney’s Chicago Dogs that used to be in Little Rock, Arkansas?

Well, I found him in Ft Lauderdale, FL. And, as per usual, he’s serving up the best quality, delicious food and creating inviting dining environments.

OB House

Rodney’s newest restaurant, although not so new anymore, is the OB House in Old Ft. Lauderdale’s Art District. Obviously, judging by the quality of his food and the shortness of his open hours, he is not working for big bucks but rather for personal fulfillment and a little bread on the side.

So why the “OB House” name? It’s not very descriptive for a breakfast joint with a menu that sidles eggs alongside local fresh fish. According to Rodney, OB House stands for “Old Breakfast House.” An homage to being housed in one of the oldest, still-standing buildings in Ft. Lauderdale; adjacent to the first inn built along the railroad tracks by rail tycoon Henry Flagler.

On the Menu

On his breakfast menu, he offers a unique cast iron skillet, oven-baked pancakes, and homemade everything, like biscuits made the way your grandma did. If OB House had a mission statement, it would be, “It’s All About Trust.” You can trust your food is made from scratch from the freshest ingredients and prepared in the most disciplined and safest environment possible.

Next time you’re down that way (in South Florida, that is), plan on an alfresco breakfast/brunch at Rodney’s OB House. Swap some of your bread (money) for his bread and I promise you will thank me. Be sure to check his website for hours. And tell him I said HI!
