We’ve all heard Gen-Xer’s being called the boomerang generation, but have you heard or thought about boomerang employees? How many people do you know that have quit a career only to return a year or two later because they missed it? We humans are all susceptible to this pattern of behavior. As the song laments about lost lovers, “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til its gone.”
Through the years, FlagandBanner.com has rehired so many employees that it’d be hard to remember and list them all. Around the office, we jokingly sing the Eagles’ song “that you can never really leave.” I’m on a roll with lyrical references!
This week FlagandBanner.com rehired two past employees. One came with no rancor but the other came back with an apology in his hand. I believe in second chances. In truth, I believe its good business because rehires:
- Know the company culture and whether they fit in
- Are appreciative of their job
- and Require less training because they are familiar with the company product and processes
I know, I know, I’ve heard it before: “Leopards don’t change their spots,” but sometimes they do. And if they do, it’s a win-win for everyone. If they don’t, well I’ll just boomerang back to where I started…interviewing for a new employee.
