Word of the Year?

Happy B-day Meghan. Can I really have a daughter that is 43 years old and a balding son-n-law of 20+ years? That just seems impossible. To all my wondering friends: “Where has the time gone?”

As the smell of Fall fills the morning air and the end of another year approaches, I begin to let my mind wander.

One of my weirder thoughts is, “What’s going to be this year’s Word of the Year (WotY)?” Last year’s word was vaccine preceded by pandemic, afore that was woke, and so on.

WotY Suggestion

In my interview with Sister Deborah Troillett, I asked her about violent, extreme Christians and Muslims, and she corrected me by saying, “We refer to them as radicalized Christians and radicalized Muslims.” I made a mental note.

Later in the week, when watching President Biden’s speech, I was acutely aware there was no mention of the word “radicalized” when he referred to the MAGA group and wondered if that was intentional or an oversight.

Being a word person, who works the crossword puzzle and plays Wordle every day, I wondered if that might be 2022’s WotY, (though the insurrection was in 2021, the word usage and aftermath prevail.) In furthering my research, I Googled the definition.

Wouldn’t it be nice if just once we had a WotY that wasn’t so radical; an unscary, positive, non-politicized word to represent the past year? Like the one below:

Addendum

Since the Queen’s death, I have decided a better word of the year might be Duty.
