Problem solving in groups is one of my favorite things to do. I’d like to think I’m good at it and, usually, people like the things they are good at.
When I read about crime in Little Rock, I am baffled; it peaks my problem-solving interest. Why does it continue to get worse rather than better? It makes me want to ask questions.
We All Want the Same Thing
I know the good people in these poor, crime-ridden areas want their neighborhoods to be safe. They want their children and property to be protected. Like all people, they want to be able to walk the street and sit on their front porch without fear. I also understand their reluctance to point fingers at the problem for fear of retaliation from gangs.
But what I don’t understand is why many of the crime problems, including shootings, can’t be solved by the powers that be. Little Rock is not that big. Is it that hard to figure out who the gang leaders are and break up their business model?
Riddle Me This
Some questions that come to mind:
Are the police afraid of gangs?
Are the police part of the gangs?
Are our politicians afraid of the gangs?
Are our politicians part of the gangs?
Are the gangs smarter than our politicians and the police?
And the last question, where are our local investigative reporters? Are they afraid of gangs, too?
