How can it be that 3 ½ years have gone by since we purchased Freedom Flag Company in North Miami?
In that time, we’ve learned a lot about South Florida; a whole other world. One of those things are the wind and sun, which are hard on flags and banners. This vinyl banner sign on our building, projected to last 5 years, only lasted 3 years before the Florida sun took its toll and faded our once brilliant colors to pastel.
That’s Bob on the roof, our 80-year old, one-eyed Florida flagpole installer, installing our new banner. He knows more about flagpoles than even my flagpole-expert husband. When Bob shows up on the job, the contractors look skeptical because of his rough-cut appearance. But by the time he leaves, they’re shaking his hand and patting him on the back for his no-nonsense flagpole experience.
Bob is a dying breed.
