“Baby Wedding” is the name son Jack coined for this past weekend’s whirlwind of baby showers and parties.
Party After Party
As I mentioned earlier, middle-son Matt is expecting his first child. His wife, Sara, who hails from Texas, planned a weekend soiree for ALL her near and far friends and family to gather and celebrate the soon-to-be new arrival, Arthur Ellis McCoy.
It’s been 16 years since I’ve been to a baby shower. It was fun! We day drank, played baby bingo, and colored with crayons on word games we found strewn about.
On my 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper was printed a large letter ‘K.’ I promptly colored it in red. The instructions were to write a baby word and draw a corresponding picture that began with your letter. I know I was expected to write and draw “KITE” but, being a person who colors outside the lines, I shamelessly wrote “Kerry McCoy” because it, too, starts with a ‘K.’ Then, I followed it up with the sentence, “Somebody, someday, will name their baby Kerry McCoy” and then drew a picture of myself complete with red lips.
Shameless Grandmother
If you think about it, Kerry McCoy could be a girl or boy name. ALL my grandchildren could be named after me. Didn’t George Foreman have all eight of his children named after him? I am not too proud to beg. There could be a grandbaby named Kerry Ellis McCoy and then someone else could have a grandbaby named Kerry Edwin McCoy, Kerry Lula McCoy, and so on.
I know, I know … I know only too well that one doesn’t get to name their grandchildren. I tried to get my daughter, Meghan, to name her son Edwin, after my dad. The only way she said she would agree to the name was if I’d give her $3,000 to pay off her current debt. At the time, I didn’t have $3,000 or I would have!
Anyway, no harm done. I’ll just keep trying.
