When I saw this flag display, I knew immediately what it was for: the 37-yr old mother of 15-, 12-, and 6-year-old children that was fatally shot for protesting, which is legal and protected by the First Amendment of the United States.
I know this blog is going to cause much controversy as a businesswoman who sells a passionate product, the American flag. I try to keep politics out of my business. But this is not about politics. I don’t believe there is any gentleman or lady alive who saw the REAL video that would believe justice was served. And please don’t call her vehicle a weapon, I’ve seen more close calls in the carpool line after school.
I’m writing this blog for myself, an exorcism of my emotions because my heart is so heavy. I cannot stop thinking of the children who lost their mother. Will they go into foster care? Will they be separated? Will they suffer a lifetime of depression?
I contribute much of my success to NOT playing it safe. I am an honest, open risk taker, who shares my experiential wisdom with my family, employees, readers, and listeners of UIYB. My blog of 20+ years is worth reading because it’s not all fluff, just like my podcast and my management style.
I have written about business, sex education, family, friends, events, books, travel, emotions, and more. Today, as a registered Independent (so no naming calling please), and as a woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and citizen who loves this country and this flag, I am concerned.
I was alive during the Vietnam War protests. I remember the Kent State killing of 4 students and wounding of nine others by members of the Ohio National Guard (28 guardsmen fired 67 rounds in 13 seconds.) Things can escalate quickly, as we see today and have seen in the past.
Follow the Rule of Law
I think everyone can agree we need clear laws. From the wisdom of a 71-year-old grandmother, I would like to see ICE better trained, better vetted, and held to the same rules as our current, admirable, serve and protect City and State Officers: Standard protocol (though not a law) is for an officer after a shooting to be placed on paid leave, have a hearing, set a court date, and let due process to take place. Again, I think everyone can agree that it is a good system.
