Family Kerry McCoy Personal

First Flight

It was November 2023, while I was battling skin cancer, that I begged husband, Grady, for a little dog to lift my spirits. He found one in the paper and that Christmas we brought Coco home. At first, she was precious, sleepy, tiny, and exactly what I thought I needed. And then it happened.

She woke up.

Suddenly she wanted constant attention, stopped sleeping like a baby, and began growing past my ideal 10-pound maximum (she’s 12 lbs.). Over medicated and tired in 2024, I begged Grady to give her away. Even telling him that all I wanted for Mother’s Day was for him to give Coco to a family with young energetic children. But he didn’t listen…stubborn man.

Today, cancer free, no longer tired, and with Coco passing the 2-year mark, I am glad he didn’t.

Reigning over the Airport

This week we tried something new by taking Coco on a plane to visit our Florida office in North Miami. We were nervous and so was she but to our surprise, she did great. Her favorite part? Riding in her carrier on top of my rolling suitcase. She’s a quirky, curious creature, and I have grown to love her.

To my surprise, dogs are great conversation starters with strangers. She was the Queen of the airport.
