A Measure of America’s Patriotism After 50 Years in the Flag Business

White House Gets New Flagpole

The White House recently installed an 80 foot flagpole on the white house lawn, and here it is. All I can think about is: FOMO, for I wish I had sold it.

Declining Flag Sales

After 50 years in the flag business, I’ve seen trends come and go. But what I’m seeing now, just two weeks before the 4th of July, feels different. Patriotism seems to be on the decline. If flag sales are a barometer of the country, and I believe they are, then pride, and love of country are at a low point. This year, there’s been no surge in people wanting to fly their colors for Independence Day.

Now that I’ve mentioned it, take notice. Look around at the lake, in your neighborhood, or on the road, and you’ll see the lack of red, white, and blue. Ironically, I’ve seen more, and sold more flags during past economic recessions than I am today.

A Message of Hope for This 4th of July

There is a saying: “Hate is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.” I never thought it applied to nations, but maybe it does.

Still, I’m not discouraged. Flags are an emotional product and like all emotions they come and go. Happy 4th of July. Stay Safe My Friends.
