When my daughter, Meghan, called the AMFA to enroll herself and my granddaughter in an art class, she was told, because of their age difference, they couldn’t take a class together.
This is when Megs told me she politely asked if it would be okay to ask a supervisor for an exception (we’re talking about a few months difference between the adult class age limit and my granddaughter’s age). The young lady she was speaking to patched her through.
Meghan then asked the supervisor for an age exception who, again, said she didn’t have the authority to make an exception. And again, Meghan politely asked if she could speak to the next higher-up in the chain of command.
The top level supervisor was professional, obliging, and understanding of the need for an exception in this case and enrolled Meghan and her daughter for art classes together.
Proud of herself, she called to tell me the good news and said, “I pulled a Kerry!”
For which I said, “It never hurts to ask.”
