How do we come back? Or even, do we come back? And, if we do, when and how do we come back?
After a two-year hiatus that started with the first Covid outbreak, these are the questions that the Friends of Dreamland (FOD) had to ask themselves. And the answers are, respectively: Yes, Yes, February 12th, and with our safe fundraiser called Dancing Into Dreamland (DID).
Last year, when we excitedly began planning our DID comeback, we had never heard of the word “Omicron.” Today, we are scurrying around to make provisions for this newfound word so we can continue with our party plans in a safe and responsible way.
With respect for this new vocabulary word, we limited the number of guests, spread out the tables, separated the bars, made individually boxed hors d’oeuvres, and now require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test for entry.
From experiencing all this extra effort, seeing the dancers’ commitment to their craft, and watching as DID’s ticket sales grow, as if without a care in the world, I’ve answered a few other questions. I’ve learned firsthand that we humans need each other, and that socializing is also good for your health.
